As harvest season begins in the tristate area, Penn State Extension is providing a series of webinars aimed at those interested in home food preservation. These sessions cater to individuals who are new to canning, those looking for fresh ideas, or anyone seeking to enhance their preservation skills after a few years away from the process.
The webinars will cover various food preservation methods, emphasizing the importance of food safety and cost-saving benefits. Organized by experts, the sessions are designed to debunk myths around food preservation, highlight unsafe practices, and equip participants with practical tips.
Upcoming online workshops include topics such as:
- Home Food Preservation: Drying
- Home Food Preservation: Wild Game
- Home Food Preservation: Charcuterie Accompaniments
- Home Food Preservation: Pickling
- Home Food Preservation: Fermented Pickles and Sauerkraut
Previous subjects, including salsa, freezing techniques, and pressure canning, will return next year. Registration fees vary: workshops are priced at $15, while webinars cost $5. Participants who are unable to attend live events will receive recordings of the webinars.
Discounts may be available for Penn State employees; details are found on the course pages. For additional information and registration, individuals can visit the Penn State Extension website.
